2011 B.A.A. BOSTON MARATHON CHARITY PROGRAM

ATTENTION INTERESTED CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS:

The B.A.A. is no longer accepting applications for the 2011 B.A.A. Boston Marathon Charity Program. Thanks to all of the organizations who have submitted an application. The next application opportunity will be in Summer 2011, for the 2012 Boston Marathon.

ATTENTION INTERESTED RUNNERS:

Runners must apply to the charity directly. Charities will begin accepting applications for the 2011 Boston Marathon in October 2010. For your information, a list of charities currently in place for the 2011 Boston Marathon is listed on the left. Please click on the logos to learn more about each charity.

Mission Statement
The Boston Athletic Association, committed to encouraging and promoting fitness through athletics, has developed a program with the Boston Marathon and charitable organizations in the Boston area. The B.A.A. assists these charitable organizations by providing guaranteed entries for their organization’s fund raising purposes and, in the spirit of charity, encourages all qualified runners to aid in these efforts.

About the Program
The B.A.A. accepts a limited number of new organizations each year, each to receive 15 waivers per year for a period for up to three years. These entries do not require a qualifying time but do require that runners acknowledge that they can complete a marathon within 6 hours and will abide by all other B.A.A. rules and regulations.

Though all 501 (c) 3 organizations located in the Greater Boston Area are encouraged to apply, strong consideration will be given to those who's own mission is to promote fitness through athletics and those who offer youth development programs. It is solely at the discretion of the B.A.A. as to the selection criteria and ultimate number of charities chosen or entries given.

How to Apply
Organizations who are located in the Greater Boston area will be considered for the B.A.A. Charity Program. Charities without a New England office need not apply. Applications are traditionally available online during the month of June. In addition to completing the online application, organizations are required to provide the following financial documents:

501 (c) 3 letter
IRS Form 990
Recent Audit Report
