Solid Performances for the B.A.A. Women at the Tufts 10k
10/10/2007
The B.A.A. women were well-represented at the Tufts Health Plan 10k for Women in Boston on Monday, October 8, 2007. The race also doubled as the USATF 10k Championship, resulting in a deep field of women vying for the national title.
Mariko Holbrook, who has had a series of strong performances on the roads this summer and fall, had another terrific race, placing 27th and setting a personal best of 34:57. Just a few seconds back in 30th place, Brett Ely, a 2008 Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier, got a sneak preview of parts of the Trials course and had a terrific performance as well. Ely also boasted a number of excellent races this summer and will be looking to translate that success into a strong performance at the Olympic Marathon Trials in April. The Tufts 10k gave Ely and other qualifiers an opportunity to race on parts of the Trials course. The Trials course will cross the Mass Ave. Bridge and run along Memorial Drive, duplicating part of the Tufts course.
This year marked the 31st annual running of the Tufts 10k, which began as the Bonnie Bell back in the 1970s. The women's-only race saw some 7000 women participate and has a long tradition of attracting some of the best national and local-area runners.
