10/28/2007
In 2006, seven points were the difference between defending their 2005 Mayor's Cup title and watching another team go home with the prize. This year, the B.A.A. men's open team was determined to be back on the winners podium. Led by Dylan Wykes in 4th place and the 2005 Mayor's Cup Champion, Jarrod Shoemaker in 9th, the men had a strong group up front that ensured that no other team would come close this year. David Bridgewater was the third B.A.A. runner to cross the line in 13th place and Mark Miller and Michael Chettle rounded out the scoring for the B.A.A placing 25th and 26th respectively. The five combined for a convincing 46 point margin of victory. The 2007 title is the sixth Mayor's Cup victory for the men's open team and the fifth in the last seven seasons.
With a number of women preparing for the Olympic Trials Marathon in April 2008, the B.A.A. did not have a complete team for the Mayor's Cup. Mariko Holbrook had a strong race to finish 17th overall and was followed closely by Mary Proulx in 24th place and two-time Heptagonal Cross Country Champion, Sara Tindall-Woodman in 28th place. The Mayor's Cup was a stop along the way to the Philadelphia Marathon where Tindall-Woodman will be competing on November 18th. The only other B.A.A. woman competing, Stephanie Westcott, finished 42nd.
The Mayor’s Cup marks the beginning of the cross country championship season for the B.A.A..
