Unlike the windstorm that runners faced last year, it was an ideal day for marathoning with clear skies and cool temperatures as runners lined-up for the 30th annual Cape Cod Marathon in Falmouth, MA on Sunday, October 28, 2007. Heidi Westerling made the most of the conditions, winning her third consecutive Cape Cod Marathon and claiming her third USATF-New England Grand Prix Marathon tite in the process. Westerling ran her personal best time for Cape Cod, finishing twentieth overall in 2:45:51. Teammate Betsy Suda also posted a top-five finish, taking fourth place in the women's race.
Westerling is preparing for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Women's Marathon which will be held in Boston on Sunday, April 20, 2008. Westerling qualified for the trials at a hot Vermont City Marathon in 2006, running 2:44:02.
In the men's race, two B.A.A. athletes placed in the top 10, Brendan Prindiville was 4th in 2:29:56 and Mark LaRosa was eighth in 2:37:16. Over 1000 runners competed in the 30th Anniversary race which also doubled as the final race of the 2007 USATF New England Grand Prix Series.
