Kimberly Duclos Victorious at the Hyannis Marathon; Strong Performances at D.H. Jones 10-Miler
2/26/2008
For the second year in a row, Kimberly Duclos had come off of a strong summer of training only to be sidelined by a foot injury. A cautious regime of cross-training and massage enabled her to slowly resume running and her perseverance paid off with a win at the Hyannis Marathon on Sunday, February 24, 2008. Her personal best time of 2:56:06 not only qualifies her for the Boston Marathon but also broke the old course record of 2:56:23 set in 1988. Having "trained through" Hyannis, she intends to compete in the Boston Marathon in just under 2 months.
In the men's race, club newcomer Michael Emanuel finished second overall in 2:44:32. Originally intending to run the race at a conservative pace in order to get a qualifying time for Boston, Emmanuel got caught up in the excitement of the marathon start (which started along with the half marathon and 10k races) and went out faster than expected. With a 4-mile split of 24: 02, he decided to alter his initial plan and race as opposed to running a controlled effort. His time earned him second place and a Boston Qualifier. After a short break, he will also be preparing to race in the Boston Marathon on Patriots Day.
Meanwhile, out in Amherst, MA, Jared Markowitz and Josh Gordon posted some solid times and strong performances at the D.H. Jones 10-Miler on Sunday, February 24, 2008. Markowitz ran 54:55 for fourth place and finished a mere 41 seconds behind the winner. Gordon was sixth in 56:01.
