3/8/2009
Kasie Enman and Lucas Meyer placed 3rd and 5th in their respective races on Saturday at the 2009 North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Cross Country Championships. Their strong performances helped Team USA take home the gold in both the Women's Senior 6k and the Men's Senior 8k Championship races. The races, held at the Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville, Fla. consisted of over 100 athletes representing the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and five other National Federations.
The Team USA women ran a strong race from start to finish, and they were in position for much of the race to finish with a perfect score. In the end, the pack of five was broken-up, but they managed to hold onto the victory. The B.A.A.'s Kasie Enman (Huntington, Vt.), finished third overall in 20:23. The Team USA women scored 14 points besting runner-up Canada by eight points. Racing for Canada was the B.A.A.'s Stephanie Hood who placed 8th overall and ran 21:06.
The scenario was similar in the Senior Men's 8k, with the U.S. men dominating the lead pack. Canada's Dylan Wykes, a former B.A.A. member, was the lone competitor to break-up the Team USA pack, placing second overall. Lucas Meyer placed fifth overall, finishing in 23:50. Team USA scored 13 points, beating Canada by 10 points.
