It was a good night for the B.A.A. on Thursday, April 23, 2009 as Lucas Meyer and Mariko Holbrook took home titles in the 5k and the 10k respectively.
The traditional "Distance Night" at the Penn Relays featured the Men's Olympic Development 5k. Meyer won the Men's race in 14:07, just two seconds ahead of the runner-up. Meyer, who recently joined the B.A.A., was a two-time All-American at Yale and competed in the steeplechase at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
The next race on the track, the Women's Olympic Development 10k, was highlighted by Mariko Holbrook's victory. Holbrook ran 34:40 for a seven second margin of victory. Also in that race, Stephanie Westcott placed 4th.
