If there is one thing that you can count on, it is that it will be hot for the Yankee Homecoming races. Despite the cold, wet weather that has dominated the summer, the sun shone and the temperatures rose just in time for the annual 10 miler and 5k in Newburyport, MA on Tuesday, July 28th.
Terry Shea led the men's team with his fourth-place finish. Shea has recently returned to racing after having taken time off over the winter and spring with an achilles injury. He was joined in the top ten by Pat Moulton who placed 6th overall. Joe Robinson (20th), Ben Schersten (23rd), and John Colavincenzo (25th), all placed in the top 25 to help secure second place in the men's team competition.
The women took top honors in the ten miler with the team of Leslie Hocking, Beth Coughlin, and Pam Kustas. In the 5k, the women posted equally strong performances with Betsy Suda and Renee Knapp placing first and second respectively. Josh Gordon was the sole men's team representative with his 10th place finish.
With the B.A.A. summer series concluded, the team focus will switch to the 2009 USATF New England Grand Prix which will resume on September 12th with the Ollie 5 Road Race in South Boston, MA.
