B.A.A. Athletes Prepare to Resume Competition in the 2009 USATF New England Grand Prix Series

After a 3-month lay-off, the 2009 USATF New England Grand Prix Series is set to resume on Saturday, September 12th at the Ollie 5 Road Race in South Boston, MA. In total, there are three races left in the series: the Ollie, The Lone Gull 10k in Gloucester, MA on Sunday, September 20th, and the Baystate Marathon in Lowell, MA on Sunday, October 18th. Registration for these events is now available on the Member's section of the website.
Going into the last half of the series, B.A.A. teams and individuals are in solid positions in the standings. In the team competition, the Men's Open team is tie for third and the Women's Open Team is in 4th, just 4 points back from the lead. The Men's Master's Team is also in 4th place.
Individually, the standings are peppered with B.A.A. athletes. In the Men's Open division, Matt Ely is tie for second, and a mere two points away from the top position. Also in second place, with two individual titles to her name so far this year, Heidi Westerling sits just one point behind the leader. In the Men's Masters competition, Jon Fortescue is in 3rd.
In the USATF New England Grand Prix Series, teams are awarded points based on the number of USATF New England teams entered and their place finish. For example, if there are 15 teams competing, the first place team gets 15 points, second place gets 14 points etc. all the way down to 15th place which receives 1 point. The top ten individuals are awarded points based on finish place from 10 points for first down to 1 point for 10th.
