Tufts 10k, Chicago Marathon and Other Racing Miscellany
10/13/2009
There may not be a busier month than October when it comes to the number of high-quality races in which B.A.A.athletes are participants. While the B.A.A. Half Marathon remains a focal point for numerous club members, others compete near and far in national championships and fall marathons.
Perhaps the busiest weekend is the second weekend in October when, along with the B.A.A. Half, runners toe the line in Hartford, CT (see related story in the 'News section), the Tufts 10k and the Chicago Marathon.
Out in Chicago, several B.A.A. athletes faced chilly temperatures and braved the infamous Chicago winds. Ben Schersten was the first B.A.A. athlete across the line in 2:33:48. Right with Schersten was Brendan Callahan in 2:33:53. For the women, Grace Trabulsi ran 3:00:08.

In other racing action, Larissa Abramiuk recently won the 2009 USATF 50 Mile Championship held in Rothrock State Forest - Boalsburg, Pennsylvania on October 3, 2009. She covered the distance in 7:26:26, nearly 30 minutes ahead of second place.
