Lucas Meyer Places 7th at the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships
12/12/2009
Since it's inception in 1998, the USATF National Club Cross Country Championship has grown in size and stature. For the past 12 years, the top clubs in the country have competed for the national title and team bragging rights.
THe 2009 race, held on December 12th ain Lexington, KY was no exception. The field was peppered with U.S. national team members, Olympic Trials qualifiers and collegiate All-Americans.
One such competitor, a collegiate All-American and Olympic Trials competitor himself, was the B.A.A.'s Lucas Meyer. Meyer placed seventh overall and fifth among club competitors in the Men's Open 10k. An experienced harrier - Meyer was a cross country All-American at Yale and the 11th place finisher at the 2009 USATF Cross Country Nationals - he successfully negotiated the uneven footing and was the first B.A.A. runner across the line.
In the women's race, Kristin Murphy had a stellar race, improving from her 102nd place finish last year to place 37th and lead the B.A.A. women. Kasie Enman, who was ninth last year and also posted a 9th place finish in the USATF Cross Country Nationals, is returning from an injury and finished just behind Murphy in 40th place. Overall the women's & men's teams finished seventh and tenth, respectively.
