| 6/6/2010 |
The B.A.A. quadrupled their results at the Rhody 5k on Sunday, June 6th as the B.A.A. Men's Open Team, Matt Ely, and Jennifer Campbell, and the men's 60+ team all grabbed runner-up honors. While Ely was second overall, he was the first New England Association runner accross the line, claiming the 5k Championship title. Bill Riley, who led the men's 60+ team, was also the champion in the 70+ age division. The race served as the USATF New England Grand Prix 5k Championship for the men. The women's championship will be contested at an all-women's race in October. For the second time in three weeks, Ely led the men with his runner-up finish. Patrick Moulton and Ben Schmeckpeper also recorded top-ten finishes to help solidify the team scoring. All three men, along with Mark Miller, sit high in the individual USATF New England Grand Prix standings. In the Masters' competition, Wayne Levy is also in solid position in the overall results. The fourth runner for the B.A.A. at Rhody, Levy was the third masters male to cross the line. Chris Magill rounded out the team scoring for the men. In the women's race, B.A.A. newcomer Jennifer Campbell placed second in the women's race. Campbell recently relocated from New Hampshire and Rhody was her first race donning the B.A.A. blue and gold. Also representing the B.A.A. was Dorothy Zirkle who placed sixth overall in her return to competition. In the Men's 60+ Division, Bill Riley, Dennis Herman, Harry Carter, and Phil Ryan combined for second place in their division. Riley and Carter went 1-2 in the 70+ division, while Herman took 8th in the 60-69 category. With four races down, four races remain in the USATF New England Grand Prix series: the Stowe 8 Miler on July 18th, the Bridge of Flowers 10K on August 14th, the Providence Ronald McDonald House 5k Classic on October 3rd (women only), and the BayState Marathon on October 17th.
