Jeannette Seckinger Qualifies for the US Olympic Team Trials Women's Marathon
6/19/2010
Jeannette Seckinger ran 2:42:39 at Grandma's Marathon on Saturday, June 19, 2010 in Duluth, MN to become the third B.A.A. woman to qualify for the 2012 US Olympic Team Trials Women's Marathon. Conditions were windy with temperatures in the mid-60s and low humidity as Seckinger ran to a new personal best and 8th place in a deep women's field.
Seckinger, the 2010 USATF New England Indoor Champion in the 5k, has set PRs in events from the 5k through the marathon over the past year. She was the 2009 Sun Trust National Marathon Champion (Washington, DC) and her previous PR of 2:48:39 stands as the course record. This spring, Seckinger successfully set her sights on Grandma's and an Olympic Trials qualifier.
Seckinger will join teammates Brett Ely and Heather Cappello at the 2012 US Olympic Team Trials Women's Marathon. Ely qualified with her win at the Miami Marathon in January with a 2:45:36. Cappello was the first B.A.A. qualifier with her 2:43:58 at the USATF Marathon Championship, hosted by the Twin Cities Marathon in October 2009. All three women have met the "B" standard time of 2:46:00.
On the men's side, the B.A.A. will be represented at the Olympic Marathon Trials by Lucas Meyer. Meyer achieved the "B" Standard by virtue of his 1:03:51 at the USATF Half Marathon Championships, hosted by the Houston Half Marathon in January 2010.
The 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials will be held in Houston January 14, 2012, one day prior to the Houston Marathon. The races will determine who will represent the U.S. in the marathon at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
