Campbell Cruises to Victory at the Marathon Sports 5-Miler
7/22/2010
Jennifer Campbell cruised to victory and defended her 2009 title at the Marathon Sports 5-Miler on Thursday, July 22, 2010 in Weston, MA. Campbell led a strong contingent of B.A.A. women, and was one of four placing in the top ten. Kristin Murphy ran a controlled race and met her goal of 30:00 minutes exactly to place third. Lindsay Willard and Liz Hankinson, who finished first and third at the Sugar Bowl 5 Miler a week ago, placed 4th and 5th respectively.
In the men's race, Patrick MacAdie was the first B.A.A. finisher, placing 6th overall. This was MacAdie's first race back after running 2:27 at the Vermont City Marathon in May. Mike Brown Dowling and Ben Schersten both notched top-twenty finishes, placing 17th and 20th respectively.
A staple of the B.A.A. Summer Series, some twenty-six B.A.A. running club members competed with seven team members bringing home age group awards. For the men, Dennis Herman improved upon his runner-up finish from 2009 to win the 60-69 age group, while MacAdie was second among 19-29 year olds. Jamie Wilson (50-59) and Schersten (30-39) each took third place in his division.
In the women's 30-39 age group, Willard was first and Beth Coughlin was third. Hankinson also placed first in the 19-29 category.
Now in it's 10th year, the B.A.A. Summer Series gives club members an opportunity to race in a number of high-quality local races over the summer months. The next team competition will be on Saturday, August 14th when club members will be in action at the Bridge of Flowers 10k in Shelburne Falls, MA, which serves as the 2010 USATF New England Grand Prix 10k Championship.
