B.A.A. Men Cap Off the Summer Racing Series with a Win at Yankee Homecoming 10 Miler

It was a successful ending to the B.A.A. Summer Racing Series as the Men’s Open team captured the team title at the Yankee Homecoming 10-Miler in Newburyport on August 2nd. Four B.A.A. athletes finished in the top 11 and all five scorers finished under the 60-minute barrier. Tim Perry, Terry Shea, Matt Ely, and Jared Markowitz were sixth, seventh, eighth, and eleventh respectively. Rounding out the scoring was Josh Gordon in 45th place. Shea took top honors in the 30-34 age division while Perry was first in the 20-24 catagory. Ely and Markowitz were both runners-up: Ely in the 25-29 year age division and Markowitz in the 20-24 year category.
Several other B.A.A. runners had strong individual performances and took home some of the top awards. Amy Gosztyla and Monica Smith each finished first in her age division. In the 45-49 year category, Joe Kaiser finished second and Harry Pino was third.
The 2005 B.A.A. Summer Racing Series offered members an opportunity to compete at three high-quality local races in July and August: The Marathon Sports 5-Miler, the Jim Kane Sugar Bowl 5-Miler, and the Newburyport 10-Miler. Begun in 2000, the Summer Series provides club members with high-quality local racing experiences and an opportunity to compete against other area club runners.
